Cristina Castro is the democratic candidate running for state senate in the 22nd district.
Cristina is a second generation Mexican-American and two-term Kane County Commissioner, representing the 20th District in Elgin. A marketing and communications professional, Cristina is a lifelong district resident and active member of her community.
Cristina was elected to the Kane County Board in 2008 and again in 2012. Currently, she serves on the Judicial & Public Safety (chairwoman), County Executive, and Finance & Budget committees as well as the Kane County Forest Preserve District’s Executive and Land Acquisition committees. As a member of the county board, Cristina has worked in a bipartisan manner to bring forth change, solve problems, and balance budgets. She is also very active in her community: Cristina is on the board of directors for the Illinois Housing Development Authority, Black History Family Festival, and Centro de Información in addition to being involved with many other local organizations. Cristina was also the first in her family to complete college and currently holds three college degrees: an Associate in Science from Elgin Community College as well as a Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration from Northern Illinois University
A dedicated public servant, Cristina uses her professional background, life experiences, and compassion to represent the interests and concerns of the people she serves. In the Senate, she will fight for working families and reach across the aisle on the issues that matter most including fiscal responsibility, investing in our schools, protecting our seniors, and tax relief.
